In my house, the children play is an ongoing photographic series that began in 2021 Midland, Virginia. I have photographed so far in New York, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia.
In this project, I hope to travel to different states in the country, photographing Mexican-American family gatherings and celebrations where I am invited as another guest. I spend 6 to 7 hours fully immersed in each celebration, observing how the space transforms into a living altar of cultural expression. Children, with their energy, innocence, and freedom, often take center stage: they are symbols of continuity, resistance, and collective memory. Their presence represents not only the joy of the present but also the constant renewal of our traditions.
The “house” in the title is a metaphor. It doesn’t only refer to a physical space but to a cultural refuge
a sacred place where our roots are kept safe, where life is celebrated without filters. Through this work, I seek to honor and carry the stories of immigration and adaptability. The way we celebrate becomes a way to hold onto home even when home changes.
This project was born out of love. Both a personal and collective journey that crosses time, space, and spirit. Each celebration becomes a portal to something deeper than the everyday.
En mi casa, los niños juegan es una serie fotográfica en curso que comenzó en 2021 en Midland, Virginia. He fotografiado hasta ahora en Nueva York, Maryland, Nueva Jersey y Virginia.
En este proyecto, espero viajar a diferentes estados del país, fotografiando reuniones familiares y celebraciones donde me invitan como otro invitado. Paso de 6 a 7 horas completamente inmerso en cada celebración, observando cómo el espacio se transforma en un altar vivo de expresión cultural. Los niños, con su energía, inocencia y libertad, a menudo ocupan un lugar central: son símbolos de continuidad, resistencia y memoria colectiva. Su presencia representa no solo la alegría del presente, sino también la renovación constante de nuestras tradiciones.
La "casa" en el título es una metáfora. No solo se refiere a un espacio físico sino a un refugio cultural un lugar sagrado donde nuestras raíces se mantienen a salvo, donde la vida se celebra sin filtros. A través de este trabajo, busco honrar y llevar las historias de inmigración y adaptabilidad. La forma en que celebramos se convierte en una forma de aferrarnos al hogar incluso cuando el hogar cambia.
Este proyecto nació del amor. Un viaje personal y colectivo que atraviesa el tiempo, el espacio y el espíritu. Cada celebración se convierte en un portal a algo más profundo que lo cotidiano.
